I can’t find my pet’s recipe. Did Merrick update the packaging?

Merrick Pet Care is updating our brand imagery to better match our core values. This update includes packaging, so don’t be concerned if your dog or cat’s food packaging looks different. Recipe names did not change, so search by recipe name to find the new packaging for your current food. You do not need to transition your dog or cat when you receive new packaging.

What is the best food for my pet?

We have always asked ourselves the same question! When you share our belief that “my pet is the best pet ever,” you want to make sure they are eating the most wholesome and nutritious food possible. We go to great lengths to craft the best food. Do Merrick’s dog food or cat food recipes include MSG?

No. We're proud to say that we do not use monosodium glutamate, also known as MSG, in any of our dog food or cat food recipes, nor do any of our natural ingredients contain MSG.

How do I transition my dog or cat to a new Merrick food?

If you’re new to Merrick or your pet has a sensitive stomach, you’ll want to slowly introduce the new recipes by mixing it in with the current food. Where can I find Merrick pet food and dog treats?

Did you discontinue my dog’s or cat’s recipe?

We aim to keep our website updated with the latest production information. If the product has been discontinued, we will work with you to find another recipe that will meet the needs of your pet.

Where are your foods produced and manufactured?

All of our foods are crafted in USA facilities.

Do Merrick diets meet AAFCO nutrient profiles?

All of our complete and balanced diets are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) nutrient profiles.

Who formulates your foods and what are their credentials?

Our foods are formulated by an experienced team of animal nutrition experts, including PhDs, veterinarians, scientists and engineers. There is no single individual who creates our food. We have trained animal nutritionists focused on formulating and validating our formulas to ensure they deliver the complete nutrition dogs and cats need to thrive.

What kind of protein is used in Merrick recipes?

We know that our pets thrive on quality protein and fat. That's why our complete and balanced recipes start with real, high-quality protein to support lean muscle mass. We only use high-quality meats sourced from inspected facilities. If you are interested in learning more about a specific recipe, we have included the ingredients list as well as the Guaranteed Analysis for each recipe on our website.

Do Merrick recipes contain chemicals?

No. We have always been committed to crafting the most wholesome and nutritious food possible. We do not use additives, sweeteners, or artificial preservatives in our recipes.

Do you supplement taurine in your dry dog food?

Yes. We supplement taurine across all our Merrick dry dog food recipes, including those that are grain free.

What are glucosamine and chondroitin?

Our recipes feature high levels of glucosamine and chondroitin to support a pet's healthy hips and joints. Although glucosamine and chondroitin are not recognized as essential nutrients by the AAFCO Dog Nutrient Profiles, we do include them in our Guaranteed Analysis for each dry dog food recipe, which is posted on our website.

What is DHA and what is the benefit of adding it to food for puppies and kitties?

Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, is an Omega-3 fatty acid that is a primary structural component of the brain, cerebral cortex, skin and retina. We include DHA in our dry recipes formulated for puppies and kittens to support brain development.

Where does Merrick source the ingredients used in its food and treats?

We know quality ingredients are the best for your pet. We are committed to sourcing the highest quality ingredients possible.

Why do you use sweet potatoes in the Merrick Grain Free recipes?

Sweet potatoes help contribute to the overall quality nutrition of our recipes, as they're a rich source of natural sugars, carbohydrates, carotenoids, and iron. If you are looking for a recipe that is free of potatoes, please consider trying one of our Merrick Healthy Grains recipes.

Where are Merrick treats made?

All of our products are cooked in the USA.

Does Merrick offer dog foods with grains?

Yes. Pet parents can choose between a grain free option, or a recipe crafted with healthy grains such as brown rice, barley and oat meal, across our portfolio for dogs. In addition to our Merrick Healthy Grains line of food, we offer several recipes within our Merrick Backcountry, and Merrick Limited Ingredient Diet lines that feature healthy grains.

Does Merrick offer any dog food recipes that don't contain peas?

Yes. We have several recipes for dogs within Healthy Grains, Limited Ingredient Diet, and Backcountry lines that do not contain peas.
